Quarantine Daze

Quarantine has been going on for about a month or so now, I really could not give you an exact amount of time because time has become almost useless nowadays. Anyways, I have been talking to some friends recently (over facetime and text because of social distancing regulations) and many of them had said the same things. That they are not sure how people with mental illnesses are coping with the current situation we are all in. This topic is very dear to me as I know many people who struggle with mental illnesses everyday and I know that this quarantine has not been beneficial to them at all.

However, I did some research and was looking for videos online to send to some of those friends who I think could need them and found some great videos on how to manage your time, how to manage your mental health, and most importantly, how to cope with our current situation.

Personally, I have been reading a lot more. I have a whole bookshelf here at home filled with books I never bothered to read before but have found a couple interesting ones. Other than that I have been practicing guitar a lot more and have been having jam sessions with my brother to help keep our minds occupied and away from the craziness that is our world today.

Here are some videos I think could be helpful for any and all who feel like quarantine is starting to wear negatively on them.

CORONA

Well here we all are, spending pretty much all of our time at home either eating or sleeping. Everything is online now, even our social contact is mainly online now, its kinda crazy. Anyways, there is plenty of news and new things being put out by various creators of all kinds. New music, new art, new updates on programs and things of that nature.

Most of all though, we need to remember to keep safe during these trying times. Below I have attached a video from youtube on how to create your own face mask with materials you can find right in your own home! I have also posted a video on how to keep a fabric face mask clean for those who are curious on whether or not they are reusable.

AHHHHH MIDTERMS

Here we are again, college students everywhere know what time of year it is; Midterm time. For a lot of people midterms can be extremely stressful and just a rough time. Some people are lucky and do not have any midterms, but others however, have multiple tests and essays due throughout the week.

Depending on your major, you may or may not be pulling all-nighters this week and I am creating this blog post to remind you all that all-nighters are actually very counteractive. You believe that staying up and not sleeping just to study and cram is going to help, when realistically you are actually retaining less information. Its been proven that taking small breaks from studying and just getting a simple laugh with some friends, or even just taking a small nap after studying is very beneficial to studying.

If you don’t believe me, do some research on the topic. I did some of my own and its helped me study for my midterms a ton so far this week. Also here is a video of ways to relieve stress during midterms just in case some of you need it too!

How to Adobe

While I was doing my audio project, I was having some trouble with some of the different tools available in Adobe Audition. Luckily, I found this great video on YouTube that really shows you how to get started and start building your own audio editing skills! If you’re having trouble you should definitely check out this video.

Living on an Algorithm

As much as people may seem like they have their lives together, they really don’t. Some people go through the entire day on auto-pilot, just going through the motions, wake up then go to work and back home for dinner, TV, and bed; all to fall asleep and wake up the next day and do it all over again. We just watched a TED talk in class about how this man lets a computer randomly decide what he will be doing almost everyday. He has been doing this for nearly 2 years and has done fine. He has gotten to see and experience many new things which I believe is the best part of this whole, letting an algorithm run your life thing.

Introduce Yourself (Example Post)

This is an example post, originally published as part of Blogging University. Enroll in one of our ten programs, and start your blog right.

You’re going to publish a post today. Don’t worry about how your blog looks. Don’t worry if you haven’t given it a name yet, or you’re feeling overwhelmed. Just click the “New Post” button, and tell us why you’re here.

Why do this?

  • Because it gives new readers context. What are you about? Why should they read your blog?
  • Because it will help you focus you own ideas about your blog and what you’d like to do with it.

The post can be short or long, a personal intro to your life or a bloggy mission statement, a manifesto for the future or a simple outline of your the types of things you hope to publish.

To help you get started, here are a few questions:

  • Why are you blogging publicly, rather than keeping a personal journal?
  • What topics do you think you’ll write about?
  • Who would you love to connect with via your blog?
  • If you blog successfully throughout the next year, what would you hope to have accomplished?

You’re not locked into any of this; one of the wonderful things about blogs is how they constantly evolve as we learn, grow, and interact with one another — but it’s good to know where and why you started, and articulating your goals may just give you a few other post ideas.

Can’t think how to get started? Just write the first thing that pops into your head. Anne Lamott, author of a book on writing we love, says that you need to give yourself permission to write a “crappy first draft”. Anne makes a great point — just start writing, and worry about editing it later.

When you’re ready to publish, give your post three to five tags that describe your blog’s focus — writing, photography, fiction, parenting, food, cars, movies, sports, whatever. These tags will help others who care about your topics find you in the Reader. Make sure one of the tags is “zerotohero,” so other new bloggers can find you, too.
